COVID-19 UPDATE: What The Pandemic Shutdown Means For Our Customers and ACU

It has been a long while since we posted an update here, but now seems like an appropriate time. We all have apprehensions and questions running through our minds that no one can answer. I can, however, give you a few answers about what the current shutdown means for our customers and American Custom Urns.

There is never a good time to deal with the loss of a loved one, but families are currently being put in unprecedented situations. Every decision becomes more difficult. Social distancing measures are causing people to postpone memorial ceremonies and grieve without the comfort of being near loved ones. Even the most basic tools that we have to cope with loss are being restricted. Because of this, we are doing our best to continue manufacturing and shipping our urns without delay. We know that being able to provide this small measure of stability is critical.

When we opened ACU, our goal was to produce urns that were different than the urns found in most funeral homes around the country. Not just different, but better. Four years later, I can confidently say that we have achieved that goal even as we continue to learn and adapt. Our urns and scattering tubes are far superior to the mass-produced, imported products that have flooded the market. An urn from ACU is not only made to the highest quality standards, but each one that leaves our shop was individually handmade by Dave or myself. We take pride in each item and want to ensure that every customer has the best buying process possible.

Our customers generally want to feel a sense of peace about the urn they are purchasing. Knowing the people who built it were emotionally invested makes that process easier. On the bottom of our urns you’ll find a laser engraving stating “Proudly Made in South Carolina, USA”. Those words have great meaning to us. We believe that our customers will feel that commitment when they see the finished product.

Doing things the right way sometimes costs more, but the results—especially in this venture—are worthwhile. With global supply chains crumbling in the face of this crisis, much of the burden falls on small, homegrown businesses. We are proud to step up during this time, but I implore you to continue supporting local businesses like ACU long after this tumultuous time has passed.

We are going to continue to do everything we can to meet this increased demand with the same expediency that we have built our reputation on. Our hope is that we can be a steadying force for those facing the extraordinary task of grieving during these uncertain times. We strongly believe that if we face this together, we will come out stronger on the other side. We appreciate your continued support.
