Choosing The Right Urn


Choosing a cremation urn can be one of the many difficult decisions families face after the loss of a loved one. Understanding the basic differences between urn types can make this process a little easier.


A common guideline is that one pound of body weight equals approximately one cubic inch of urn capacity. For many adults, an urn with about 200–240 cubic inches is appropriate, though some individuals require more capacity.

  • Standard Cremation Urns

    Standard urns are designed to hold the cremated remains of one adult. These are the most commonly selected urns and provide a simple, dignified resting place.

    Our standard urns offer approximately 240 cubic inches of capacity, which is suitable for most individuals. This size is compatible with many columbariums and vaults.

  • Companion Urns

    Companion urns provide additional capacity and are commonly chosen for two individuals who wish to remain together. They may also be used for one individual who requires more capacity, such as someone who weighed over 240 lbs, or when additional space is desired. Our companion urns provide approximately 530 cubic inches of total capacity.
